Studies
2.) Due A, Toubro S, Astrup A. Effect of normal-fat diets, either medium or high in protein, on body weight in overweight subjects: a randomized 1-year trial. International Journal of obesity. 2004;28:1283-1290.
In the article, “Effect of normal-fat diets, either medium or high in protein, on body weight in overweight subjects: a randomized 1-year trial” it explains how high protein diets affect body weight in overweight people. The article explained that high protein diets help induce and maintain weight loss in obese subjects. This study had a total of fifty overweight people ages eighteen to fifty-six years old. It explains the methods they used including the subjects they used and the design in which they accomplished the study. Then they went in to the dietary intake and compliance of the patients. They included many graph to help with their research. This will help us a lot in the project being able to see the actual information in the charts.
3.) Larsen TM, Dalskov SM, Baak M, Jebb SA, Papadaki A, Pfeiffer A, Martinez A, Handijieva- Darlenska T, Kunesova M, Pihlsgard M, Stender S, Holst C, Sris WHM, Astrup S. Diets with high or low protein content and glycemic idex for weight-loss maintenance.
This article is about the difference between low-fat diets, they result in short-term weight loss. But high-protein diets result in substantial weight loss and help keep the weight off. This study incorporated families that had at least on healthy child between the ages of 5-17 and at least one parent between the ages of 18-65 who was overweight or obese. The overweight parents who achieved a weight loss of more than 8% of their baseline weight on an 800 calorie diet during an eight week trial were randomly assigned along with their families to maintain this diet for 26 weeks. This also explains the weight-loss phase that the subjects have gone through. As well as the weight maintain phase.
4.) Eisentein J, Roberts SB, Dallal G, Saltzman E. High-protein weight-loss diets: are they safe and do they work? a review of the experimental and epidemiologic data. J AM Diet Assoc. 2002;60:189-200.
This study consisted of 20 healthy women aged 19-54 who did not smoke, and were 20 pounds over their target weight for their height and desired to lose weight. They were put on a high protein diet each dieted for 14 days, lunches were prepared, dinners and other foods were sent home already to be cooked. The group loosed a significant amount of weight. The study found that this type of diet low fat and high in protein or low in protein are both effective in wanting to lose weight.
5.) Farnsworth E, Luscombe ND, Noakes M, Wittert G, Argygiou E, Clifton PM. Effect of a high-protein, energy restricted diet on body composition, glycemic control, and lipid concentrations in overweight and obese hyperinsulinemic men and women. Am J Clin Nutr. 2003; 78;31-39.
This article compared the effects of 2 weight loss diets differing in the amount of protein to carbohydrates consumed, glucose and lipid metabolism, and markers of bone turnover. The study was done with fifty-seven subjects with the majority asked to maintain their usual food intake and physical activity levels. The study found that replacing carbohydrates with proteins had beneficial metabolic effects.
6.) Johnston CS, Tjonn SL, Swan PD. High-Protein, low-fat diets are effective for weight loss and favorable alter biomarkers in healthy adults. Journal of Nutrition. 2004;134;586-591.
This article is about the studies that were done with various diet groups. Under tightly controlled experimental restrictions, low-fat diets of varying protein content were equally effective at promoting steady weight loss over a 6 week period. After the six weeks, body weight and fat mass were reduced significantly in both groups. But the overall research showed that the participants undergoing the high protein diet had been less-hungry and a higher degree of satisfaction
7.) Wycherley TP, Noakes M, Clifton PM, Cleanthous X, Keogh JB, Brinkworth GD. A high-protein diet with resistance training improves weight loss and body composition in overweight and obese patients with type 2 diabetes. Diabetes Care. 2010;33: 969-976.
The article aimed to evaluate the effects of two low-fat hypocaloric diets differing in the carbohydrate to protein ratio. The study involved eighty-three participants. The article concluded that an energy-restricted high protein diet combined with resistance exercise training resulted in greater weight loss than all the other researched and studied diets from the article.
Websites
8.) "High-Protein Diet for Weight Loss, Foods With Protein." WebMD. WebMD, 03 Jan. 0000. Web. 23 Apr. 2012. <http://www.webmd.com/diet/guide/high-protein-diet-weight-loss>.
WebMD was a great source for our project. It was very helpful when explaining what a high protein diet was. I also gave us a lot of information that we did not think of to use in our project. We used this website a lot when creating our research project. We liked how detailed it was and it was also easy to trust the information that the website was putting out.
9.) Ilieva, Rumiana. "Protein Diet for Women." Workout Routines For Women. Web. 23 Apr. 2012. <http://www.women-workout-routines.com/protein-diet.html>.
This was a great site for us to focus in on women. A lot of the other sites were on men as well and we aare focusing our project on women. The author gave a normal day on a high protine diet. This was very helpful to our project. the author says as well that working out with this type of diet is best.
10.) Hellesvig-Gaskell, Karen. "High Protein Diet Plan for Women." LIVESTRONG.COM. 14 June 2011. Web. 23 Apr. 2012. http://www.livestrong.com/article/299611-high-protein-diet-plan-for-women/.
This was another great site for us to focus in on women. This had a lot of helpful information and helped us focus in on our project. It gave us a specific recommendation of how long a women should accomplish this diet. It also gave us what a day packed with protein looked like. I think the author did a great job explaining everything and it was easy to understand.
11.) "Nutrition for Weight Loss: What You Need to Know About Fad Diets." Familydoctor.org. Feb. 2004. Web. 23 Apr. 2012. <http://familydoctor.org/familydoctor/en/prevention-wellness/food-nutrition/weight-loss/nutrition-for-weight-loss-what-you-need-to-know-about-fad-diets.html>.
This site helped us figure out what a fad diet is. It was a good recourse to use. It was very interesting to see the differences between a fad diet and a high protein diet. It also told us how to recognize fad diets and how to eat healthy without starting one.
